parts of my bicycle are made of chrome – how come every time I hear a face down records release I want to be in a bar somewhere hearing the stuff done up live? why do I want, no, need a beer when I hear this stuff? probably because of “chelsea” and lyrics like “i know he’s a mean motherfucker” and “i got a new shirt for the journey.” and the fact that they slip piano in on the tune. and the way it makes me get off my lazy ass and dance when I’m drunked up. fuck, all i ever ask is that the band seems to be having at least as good a time as i am. so set us up another round bartender! “parts of my bicycle are made of chrome” cd release show, khyber, philadelphia, pa 1/4/02
the record release show for parts of my bicycle are made of chrome with the dipsomaniacs, grand fabric & the narcoleptics. this was the first performance of “undecidedly so” and the only time we’ve started “weekend politics” with the intro of “the song remains the same”.

khyber, philadelphia, pa 9/8/01
the infamous “feel the pride” show. a ramshackle of a show with out of tune guitars for almost the entire set, becker and ward both wearing “smith” #35 paul vi high school football jerseys that belonged to becker’s roommate, and ending with our first ever guided by voices cover (with all of us switching instruments) that devolved into a wall of noise. for the last song becker played bass, ward played guitar, steve played guitar and pete played drums.

mcguire’s pub, atlantic city, nj, 5/25/01
i think this was the first time lauree had us come down and play mcguire’s. we split the night with the dipsomaniacs each band playing an hour set and then at the end of the night alternating back and forth between bands doing two songs each. we wrapped up the show around 4:00 am, went over to one of the casinos and bet all of our door money on black.

don’t have an exact date for this one, probably in march. this was the first performance of both “deep end” and “trinket”. “trinket” we only played two or three times around this time and then shelved indefinitely. it didn’t make an appearance in a setlist again until may 2013.
