it was a good mix of old (“pictures” is about 13 years old now) and new (“afternoon is better” and “slow down” were two brand new songs) with a bunch of covers thrown in at the end at the request of ward’s sister who was celebrating her birthday.

this was our 4th year (3rd in a row) playing the abbaye anniversary party and just like all the other years we did it karaoke style. this year we had a book of 200 songs that people could choose from, sign up for, and sing with us. it was five glorious hours of controlled mayhem (with one ten minute break between the two sets). everybody who got up and sang did a great job. we warmed everyone up with five of our songs and then the crowd took over. below is the entire set list starting with the five taggart songs right into the karaoke. all the karaoke songs have the original band following the song title.

we were booked as the only band for a beer week event billed as a “live music blowout” at the khyber. we took the opportunity to turn it into the release show for pink pig stink and a party celebrating the 10th anniversary of the four of us playing together. the title of the event became very appropriate as we tore through two hour-long sets of songs spanning our entire career (plus a ton of covers). the night was really made by a group of four english guys who spent their first night in america drinking and dancing non-stop right in front of the stage for the entire length of the show.

the night we rocked so hard the pa couldn’t take it; what was supposed to be a fun night playing a few sets at the pourhouse kept getting interrupted by our borrowed pa head blowing it’s fuse. we made it through the first set unscathed but halfway through the second the pa blew mid-song which caused the vocals to completely drop out. becker ran to a local auto garage and bought new fuses so we were able to replace it and start up again but after it happened two more times we ended the show a little early. everyone left and we sat at the bar to drown our sorrows. then, around 1:30 am, two of our friends showed up so we played two more songs just for them that they requested.

a halloween show where both bands performed “in costume”. late night television opened the show with an entire set of smashing pumpkins songs. we then took the stage as guided by voices (complete with cooler full of beer) via 1996, their last tour with the “classic” lineup.
